New Truck

Hey guys, I'm new here, mostly because of my new truck. I just purchased a 1997 F-150 XLT with the 4.2 V6. At first i was sceptical, we've always had trucks in my family, Ford trucks at that, but never one with a V6. Given that all of you have a truck very much like the one I'm picking up on thursday, I was hoping you could share some wisdom. But my one big concern is simply "Will I enjoy it, even though its not a V8?"

Now, I dont plan on going 4x4'n in it (2wd is part of the reason, lack of a budget to replace something that might break is the other) but if I go skiing on a bad day or need to tow someone, is it going to cut it? Wll having another few ft-lbs with a 4.6 or 5.4 make much of a difference?

Thanks guys.
Ben

For occasional use, the 4.2L will do just about anything. It may not tow a big load as fast, etc. but with patience it'll work. I always drive a 4x2. No 4x2 pickup has any traction in slippery (snow, ice, mud) conditions, or at least not enough to pull someone out of a ditch.

That's not true. I've pulled our minivan out of a ditch! Of course it wasn't dry at all and the ditch was only about 2 feet deep.
