Built In drink coolers

For all of us who own Extended Aerostars you know about the storage bins behind the rear seat that are built in to the floor... Well, Ive been thinking about it, they have drain plugs in the bottom to drain water, and they are made of plastic, SOOOOO, what would stop us from filling them with Ice, putting in a few beers, some pop, and going down to the beach on a nice day for a tailgate party. Or even just on a long hot road trip, having cold drinks is always nice.

Has anyone else thought of this, or tryed it before? I got the idea because when i bought my van it came with an emblem on the side storage bin on the interior panel that says "Dometic Mini-Bar", I relly dont think it is a mini bar but then again i have never taken it apart, I just think if it really was there would be some way to turn it off and on.

i dont see why it wouldnt work. but why not insulate the bins too??

add your drainage lines, then spray some of that expanding foam in a can stuff in from the underside. then they would stay cold.

good idea.

I use the Driver side Bin for Drinks. It will only hold half a bag of ice with drinks.

You can take it out and cut the side to add more space. I might do that this summer so I can get a whole bag of ice with a 12 pack in there.

You could also take a old Ice chest and cut it to fit from the underside. Just add some screws and a seal and your ready.

It really has become apparent that the only thing that limits what can be done with an aerostar is the human mind and the amount of time we have on our hands LOL!

I dunno...I prefer a standard small ice chest between the first and second rows of seats. I can reach back and grab a cold beverage and food while I drive.

I use the small cooler behind the passenger seat too. That way I can grab the drinks/snacks while I drive. I use the bins in the back to hold a seriously strong tow chain, and tools and jack in the other. I have a roll up tool pouch that I packed special for the Aero. I have almost everything I need to do most anything to it even on the side of the road.
