1970 cruise control???

I was just cutting up what's left of my 67 f2504x4 parts truck and found an odd sensor in the speedo cable mounted to the driver inner fender. Figured it was just a worthless aftermarket cruise control thing, but then noticed it has a 1970 ford part number on it. The front clip appears to be from a 1970 f100. Can anybody tell me what this sensor is? Thanks.
Dustin

It is the speed sensor for the cruise.

No, it is not a speed sensor for cruise control. That option was not yet available of Ford trucks but starting in 1970 some trucks were equiped with a spark control module and used an inline speedometer cable adapter that looks identical to the later speed control part. There would also be a temperature sensor usually mounted in a door jamb and a small black plastic box with a couple of vacuum hoses running to the distributor and intake manifold. It was one of Fords worst emission control ideas and was abandoned quickly so unless you are a big fan of 1970 you may have never seen one. Hawkrod

It really does not come up often on the trucks so I don't expect anybody to know anything about them but they were quite common on Mustangs/Cougars/Fairlanes/Torinos/ Rancheros etc... and you would be shocked how often it comes up on those forums! LOL Hawkrod

You'll see them starting in '70 on the F100's only. Went by different names over the years like TRS, Disc-O-Vac, etc. Basically the system allowed vacuum advance only when above 28mph and above 65 degrees or so. It's a glorified NOX device, remember the aftermarket ones that just disconnected the vacuum advance permanently? Do a search on "TRS".
