How involved is putting a suspension lift on? I have a 94 eb with 5.0 and am considering rough countrys 6 inch kit with blocks in the rear because I dont do any seriours offroading. Also how much do you think total cost would be installing it myself or having a shop do it the cost of the kit is 489.00. I would rather install it myself if it is not too involved. Thanks
Depending upon the kit, you will have drop brackets for both the axle halves and the radius arms up front plus the blocks out back. The block kit isn't much to deal with but the axle and radius arm drop brackets will take some time. the hardest part will more than likely be the radius arm drop brackets since often the OEM radius arms brackets are riveted on to the frame and the rivets will need to be drilled/cut out before you can install the drop brackets. Other than that its all pretty much nuts and bolts with the possibility of some drilling for the axle drop brackets as well. You will need to relocate or lengthen brake lines. If you have the tools, the cost beyond the price of the kit itself, should be minimal. Not sure about having a shop do it but someone will know. Keep in mind too that you will HAVE to have the truck re-aligned as soon as the lift has been installed so that will be an expense after the fact.
Shop should be about 500 bucks to install it...unless you enjoy getting big rivets out then it might be worth the 500 bucks...the rivets are the hardest part...i have used a torch on rivets but you have to be very careful not to burn the frame. if you do it just right you can blow the head off the rivet then pound it with a bf hammer and a drift punch....it sure beats drilling them....
how about a plasma cutter? I am taking Level one welding and would be allowed to do it in there and it seems that a plasma cutter would do a better job than a acetylene torch?
