1985 F250 with D50 front
Turbill and I spent the day doing front brakes and we found out that his early 1985 F250 has a Dana 50 front axle. It's also got a Dana 70u rear axle, so it's gotta be an early 85 since the Ford/Sterling unit came out in mid-85. It's a regular cab/long bed, not even a supercab!
The door jamb sticker also says his front end is 3850 GAW, and the truck is 8600 GVW.
The truck was originally bought by an upstate New York municipality for snow plowing, maybe the DPW special ordered the truck with the heavier duty front axle? Thinking this is early 85, since the Dana 60 would have also came about in mid-85...leaving the Dana 50 as the heavy duty option.
Make any sense?
The reason for it being a Dana 50 is the Dana 44 wheel bearing nut socket tool wouldn't fit and that tool has 4 prongs. We had to go back to the store and buy the Dana 50/60 wheel bearing nut socket with 6 prongs.
