Hey guys, i need some help kinda quick. I jsut rebuilt the C6 out of a 79' bronco, sittin behind a 400, with the np205 t-case. I get the thing together, feels good, put the front pump on, before i tighten any of the bolts on the pump, i can rotate the output shaft in both directions by hand, and everything looks ok, as i tighten the pump bolts, it gets harder and harder to turn the output shaft, once the pump bolts are torqued down right, i cannot rotate the output shaft at all. The rebuild did NOT consist of new thrust washers, just new seals, frictions etc. I dont know why it owuld be doing this and have had it apart at least three times in the last few hours to make sure all the washers and everything was seated fine, and it was. going to be putting it in tomorrow...hoping the thrusts will wear slightly and it will be ok...any ideas? Need help badly, i appreciate it alot, thanks!
Eric
The spec on the endplay of the input shaft is something like .005 to .015". If you don't have that, the main thrust washer will wear out and the front planetary will chew up the back of the pump housing, destroying both. You need to find what's wrong, or you will be doing the tranny twice.
IIRC, there was a torrignton bearing all the way at the rear of the transmission that sat in a little pocket. If this bearing gets cocked in it's pocket, or slips off location, it will make the transmission very tight.
I dont think that anything is not seated, like i said, had it apart several times. One issue when i was putting it back together was that when i would get the output shaft in, then install that rear plantary gear, once i put on that snap ring to hold it in, the output shaft would be extremely tight, hard to turn, it would have stiffer spots. i took everything out, took down any little high spots on componnts, polished the parking gear a little so it could sit farther down the output shaft, cleaned up where the rear most thrust washer was staked in and put it all back together, it was still a little stiff, but could turn it by hand no problem. I dont get why there would be no end play wiht using the old thrust washers, if anything, i would expect too much. Thanks.
