Question Cab Bolts removal & partial frame replace

I just finished taking the intire front end off of my F150 4wd. After closely inspecting the outer and inner fenders, hood, etc...No major rust was found. Everyhting is in solid shape! Just a small hole under the battery tray that can easily be repaired...

Now for the questions....

#1 I am at the point to remove the old body mounts and replace them. I only have taken the bolts out of the radiator and cab support right now. Now that the bolts are out, what is the best way to remove the old bushings? I have tried to pry, but to no avail.

#2 The very front of the fram where the bumper mounts to has been severly hacked. Looks like the PO torched off a few inches then did a terrible job welding the the bumper mounts in place. The welds look like big globs of gum!! What I'm wanting to do is find a junker and NEATLY cut off the piece of the frame that holds on the bumper and put it on mine. Where would be the best place to take my measurements from to ensure I get it right? I was thinking taking them from the radiator support mounting holes and going from there. Any better ways to do this??

Any thoughts are welcome and appreciated!!

Thanks all.....

Mike

If you are buying new mount's cut them off with a torch or sawzall otherwise get a lot of WD40 or PB Blaster.

I would think that the core support mounting holes would be a good place to pull measurements from.

Thanks...I am replacing the mounts with new poly bushings. So all I need to do is just cut them off at the frame? Sounds easy enough...

Yep. You might have to put a pair of channel locks on them if your using a sawzall to keep 'em from spinning

One more question for ya on the frame part.... Do you know if all of the front bumpers are interchangable from the 73-77 models? Since I am having to do the frame fix, I wanted to be sure. New bumper going on anyway, just want to buy the right one

Yes they will fit, but they are slightly different style.

Big Hammer

Just put the bolt back in the mounts, and leave it standing up about 1/2inch and hit the bolt with a hammer. Mine came off of a 73 F100 using that method.

I tried the bolt method and it worked on one side of the radiator support after beating the crap out of it. The other side was so rusted, it was practically welded together. I took my hacksaw to it and cut it off. Hopefully the cab mounts won't be so bad. I don't really want to take the cab comletely off the frame... We'll see in a couple of weeks!

Thanks for the advice fellas!!

'73-'76 front bumpers are smooth looking,
whereas the '77-'79 bumpers have a step in the bumpers with the upper half protruding farther than the bottom
so I think that the frames are little different, however, all these bumpers share the same 4 bolt pattern and will swap between years but might not look perfect. I guess this is about as clear as mud.

yeah, about that clear...I did notice the appearance diffrences in the catalogogs. I loke the look of the smooth ones better anyway. I was hoping that the bolt pattern would match up!

Thanks!!
