Well I'm having issues. I had already taken the cat out a while back so today i was gunna take the muffler out too. So i take the whole exhaust out because i also wanted to make the exhaust exit before the rear tire instead of after the rear tire. So what i did was cut the muffler off and cut the rear section and reused the 90 degree bend at the very end of the exhaust. So now theres a 4-5' section of piping and then the 90 degree bend and it exits before the tire....Well i start it up and its LOUD, sounds like my neighbors diesel that is highly moded (this is ok though ) but I took it around the block and for some reason it was only making 14lbs of boost, normally makes 17-18lbs. It can't be a backpressure issue can it? I mean other people are running 4" straight pipes with probably less kinks and bends then I have on this (3.5"). Only thing I can think of is the truck was somewhat cold and outside its pretty cold right now or last time i worked on the truck one of the studs broke that are on the bottom of the downpipe so only 1 bolt is holding the exhaust to the downpipe. Thats iffy though because it was fine before i did this and i ran it like that for a couple months. Anyone got any ideas on what the problem is? I might just buy a 4" exhaust if this doesnt work out. Gunna go to the store now and let it heat up some then test boost. Thanks!
just tested it out and after driving around some it hit 18lbs with the 5.6K switch on. Also it doesn't sound like its leaking from the downpipe but i can feel alittle air blowing on my hand when i put my hand near there. The truck has no throttle response now though, takes longer to spool up but yet it has more boost at low rpm (normal driving it was making 2lbs boost where as it normally wouldnt read any) but then mid range sucks.
Sounds like you have a leak somewhere. Your losing boost and that's definitely gonna hurt HP. I'd thouroughly check all the connections, if all the exhaust is not passing through the turbine, or there is a leak after the turbo outlet, you will lose tons of boost.
