I am having a problem with a 01 F250 PSD ext. cab with a short bed, Lately at 75mph I am getting a vibration, I have changed U joints, balanced tires but I still can't get rid of it, the vibe goes away once I get over 75 or under 75. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for next? This is a stock truck.
How many miles on the tires? I had the same problem with my Jeep Cherokee a couple of years ago. Turned out the tires were slowly coming apart. The belts were seperating and finally one blew at about 80 mph. Got lucky and pulled her of the road with no problems.
My tires only have 6000 miles on them and I had them balance 3000 miles ago. I don't feel the vibe in the steering wheel, but I don't really feel it in the seat of my pants either, which confuses me because I have always learned that if you feel it in the seat it's driveline, but if you feel it in the steering wheel it is something in the front end. BTW I had the front end aligned no problems there and I checked the wheel bearings, linkages and I didn't see anything obvious. Could it be ball joints? I am not sure how to check those.
I have a 99 sd ext.cab that has the exact same problem at the exact same speed!! I have new tires, and have replaced the u-joints and the ball socket in the cv joint. It was way worse when i bought the truck but after new tires and joints its way better. I know its in the driveline because you can really feel it if you hold onto the shifter of the tranfercase. I'm wondering if my driveshaft is bent or out of balance. I am going to see if i can find someplace that can check it for me. If you find a solution post it here and i will do the same. Good luck!!
I had the same problem with my truck, but it turns out that when i replaced my clutch, i put the driveshaft back in 180 off. Fixed that problem and the vibration went away. Check for missing tire balence weights. Every 1oz out a tire is at 60 mph is something like 12 lbs of force to vibrate your truck.
Those are good suggestions guys! I did check to make sure km driveshaft was in phase and it is. The vibration does cause a hum in the cab. That is what leads me to believe it is drivetrain related. Thanks for your help!!
make sure dirve shaft aint out of balance bring it in and have it balanced i had the same problem turned out to be two things drive shaft out of balance and drive shaft out of phase here is a link to info on how to chech proper phasing of drive http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_...haft%20Phasing
also what i did before i brought my shaft in to have it balaced i drove my truck with out the rear drive shaft in place when i hit 75 the hormonic viberation was gone if it still thier then it might be somthing in the rear end
