It seems to me that something could be done to optimise the GP system on these trucks,I live in Europe and I have hardly ever heard of GPs breaking off or melting on European cars???My Dad has a Peugeot 405 Diesel and his gps have never been changed,he has a bit over 200.000 kilometers on it! Since I am putting my truck in the hangar to install my veggie kit I am seriously thinking about pulling the heads and re-threading the gp holes to Euopean standards,12mm, to use the local plugs,I found some that are the same length and voltage, worth the try!

Saigon, that's interesting information. There's lot's of other information you might need before you start that larger glow plug project.
Test it on some junk heads first maybe.
I"m looking for somebody to come up with a Computer enhanced Fuel delivery system for our IDI's which will replace the current mechanical Injector pump.
Maybe that will eliminate the need for those Glo Plugs.
Also it might improve the milage.
I share you interest in improving and changing things. I think EFI mod is a do-able idea.
Hey,
that would be great,no more Stanadyne! That Ip gives me problems for my veggie kit,I have to heat the oil to 150° F,if I had a Bosch pump I would'nt have to.As for as the GP's are concerned I don't think the size would be an issue,at least not the length since I found some that are the exact length, and I dont think re-threading to a larger size would weaken the heads, anyhow where I live I can't find any salvaged engines so I can't do any testing, not too many big bores over here.I had fried my plugs awhile back (few years ago),that's when I decided to go with the manual switch (Ziggster's),I still managed to start it up on 2 plugs,my engine has super good compression, that helps alot too!

Ziggster has the answers. He's probably looked into alternative GP's n' Controllers.
I stayed with the stock GP controller and AZ's GP's.
I personally feel that the Engineers had a good product for all weather conditions.
Mine worked well in Alaska.
I think the changes between the IDI and the Power stroke are all in the computer controlled fuel delivery. I'd like to be the one to come up with the conversion kit.
