I had an 04 F350 CC FX4 SRW SB Lariat and I now have the truck in my signature. Anybody wanting to know if the trucks are much improved, IMHO incredible difference. They took a great truck and made it even better. This is what competition does and with Toyota nipping at the F150s heels , Ford want to stay on top in the heavy duty pickup market. I owned a Toyota Camry for 16 years and it was an incredible car. When Toyota stats to compete in the SD segment it will be very interesting. Here,s what I like the most on the 05s
Steering is 100% better. I wheel my monster CC LB around town easier than my 04 CC LB ever did. Steering damper is tucked up high in the 05s, hung down low in 04. Only negative in 05s no grease nipples on tie rods or ball joints like the 04s did.
Brakes are better
11200 GVW (11500 with PSD ) on a SRW pickup. Incredible. 5600 lb front axle and 7000 lb rear axle. 12600 pounds before you over load your axles.
On top of it these trucks ride fairly nice, not quite as nice as a Chevy but a man walks with a heavier step than a girl.
Lariat auto heat works great. I use the manual defrost and set fan on high until you feel heat than hit the auto button and forget it, the cab stays at what you have the temp set at.
Lariat electric rear view mirror is super, they had it back in 95, then dropped it ontil 05 , Why?
Steering wheel controls on Lariat for audio , temp control , fan speed are slick.
Black leather steering wheel better than light colour leather in 04.
Grill and 18 wheels turn head. Take care, Wrenchtraveller.
the only thing i don't like on the 05 is how low the front control arms are...those are going to take a beating off road!.. that and the 1/2 plastic front bumper ...
The 2004 Superduties front axle was rated for 6,000 lbs with the proper springs.
The rear (Visteon 10.5 FF) is rated for 9750 lbs. It's only the tires/wheels that hold it back from its full potential.
