Brake Light

Above the parking brake, in the dash, on my Ranger, is a hole that has never had anything in it since I've owned it (about 19 years). I always assumed it should be a warning light for the parking brake. I'm now told that it is for a light to warn of possible trouble with the service brakes.

Can anyone provide the "rest of the story"??

Thanks,
Gator

On the proportioning valve there is a switch that would light the light if pressure in one circuit is lost.

Thanks, Jared.

I'll make it functional again.

On mine the wire is fried totally. What in the world would cause that? I was under the impression it was a parking brake warning light. So is it, in fact a 'pressure-is-lost light?'

I have since been able to look at a Ford shop manual. It says what Jared said, it is to warn of loss of pressure in one or the other of the service brake circuits.
