ok well im doing a complete overhaul on my front brakes. and since i had it all apart im replacing the rotars too. now that i have the bearings out of the hub how do i get them back in and nicely packed with grease?
I'm not real familiar with the 78s. Did the new rotors come with new races? Pack the bearings either in your palm or with one of those tools you put in a vice. I always add extra grease around the spindle. Did you get new seals?
Be sure that you pack the rotor full of grease on ther inside between the bearings. What will happen in the summer (hot weather) the grease in the wheel bearings will flow into the cavity between the inner and outer bearings, packing the center of the bearing right full (but will room to get the spindle through) will keep the bearing full of grease, granted its messy but it sure as heck is worth it.
If you dont want to make a mess, take hem to your local gas station that still does work and he will pack them for you. they do it with pressure and it seems to get it packed tighter than by hand. The races just knock out from the back side. The thing to make sure you get in right is the seal.
