My regular cab 4x4 came with the 17 inch rims and the 255 generals. I keep getting stuck and according to the tire rack general is the only tire that fits my truck in the weight range. Has anyone else replaced there 17" tires with something more aggressive, I always had bfg ats on my other trucks but they don't make a 17 in the f150's wheight range. thanks
brett
Get a set of BFG A/T LT265/70R17. These are load range C tires. Perfect for your truck. That is what I run for the winter on my 04 Scab FX4. I am not sure what ration the genreals are, 70 or 75. If 75 then you will be real close on overall diameter to the BFG LT265. If 70 then your speedometer will be off a litle. This can be corrected by the dealer by reprogramming the tire size in the computer.
I don't know why tirerack doesn't list these tires as for your truck. I think they are looking at exact match size. The BFG's will work just fine.

Yes, General tires are the only ones in the new Ford size. TireRack doesn't list any other size tires for that truck with those wheels because Ford will void your warranty if you change the stock tire size. It says so in your owners manual. A reputable dealership will refuse to put a different size tire on your truck and will refuse to reprogram your computer for such a reason. If they do that, your warranty will be void. You don't want a voided warranty on a Ford. Ford warranties are so short just wait.
yeah i looked at those bfg's but according to tire rack the f150 is load range sl not lode range c, i'd never heard of load range sl but there you go. If its true that putting a different tire on my truck is going to void the warranty then i should have bought a z71 at least they have decent tires from the factory, the fx4 ford tires don't look like they would be any better than mine.
Ford will not void your warranty for a different size tire. SL is for passenger car tires, which are used on the F150, however, I prefer LT tires myself. SL are the tires that start with P. The 265 will work fine and will not void any warranty.

WRONG!!!!! Open up your glove compartment and take that little book out that says Owners manual. In there it says any change in tires or suspension will void the Ford warranty. All you have to do is read.
Check out my gallery. The first picture is taken in the driveway of the salesman I bought the truck from. Those BFG LT265/70-17's went on before it left the lot. To me it is totally crazy that Ford puts P series tires on trucks that weigh what these ones do.

And Ford can not legally void your warranty without proving that the change you made caused the problem you are trying to get fixed.
You need to do some reading on warranty laws.
I have had my truck in a few times to the service department as it sits right now! Not one word said about a voided warranty! FORD would be stupid to start limiting what can be done to their product. They start playing that game - FORD sales go DOWN DOWn DOwn Down!
thanks for all the info i think i'll go by my dealer tomorrow and see what they say. big dave i checked your gallery and from one of the pictures it looks like the bfg's do the trick in mud.
rallyview, here is a good explanation of what I was talking about. http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/Dumm...e/id-2669.html
Also another thing to think about is that the tires that came with my FX4 are larger than the LT265. Mine came with LT275/65-18.

Actually they are not that good in mud. I think that is as much a factor of the tread width as anything. I really think that for mud, and deep snow for that matter, you want a tire with a deep sidewall and narrowish tread. Trouble is everybody seems to be going the other way (shallow sidewall and wide tread).
On the other hand I would guess that the Generals the truck came with are totally useless in mud. They also don't work out on the gravel and crushed rock roads we have here. One dealer told me he sold one which didn't make it all the way home before wrecking a tire with a rock puncture.
The other tire you might want to consider is the Cooper Discoverer S/T. I went with the BFG's because I got a good swap deal with the dealership.

Buddy of mine just bought a new 04 XLT this morning. Dealer installed 265 x 70 x 17's Goodyears on it for him. I haven't seen it yet so I don't know which GY's, but it's 2 wheel drive..

If you have the problem documented before any un-stock modifications then of course Ford must fix it. Why would you take that chance though? The owners manual clearly states that tire or suspension modifications void the warranty. Obviously, it's up to the Service personnel to make that call.
Funny that one of the reasons Ford decided to buy my truck back was because I was going to sue them for breach of contract due to the fact that they wouldn't stand by their own warranty and fix my truck, because they couldn't. I don't need to read anything about warranty law, that's what the lawyer is for. I did, however, read my owners manual which was revised in January of 04 to exclude any vibration problems. Interesting, hmmmm.
