fuel problems

I'm just guessing here but here it gies. I loaned out my truck and the guy ran it out of gas, ever since then it stalls out intermittently. I'm guessing that its probably a clogged filter or maybe some water in the line. I'm going to check that today. Anyone have any other ideas. I know this is a simple question, but it never hurts to ask. Thanks

I have dual tanks, and hate to admit it, but I run one or the other tank dry too much. I'll be running down the road and feel the hesistation of the engine as the gas runs out, I'll switch tanks and she comes back in a flash. I have also run both tanks down to zero a few times, I'm not proud of it, but can say that it has never caused any after-effects once I filled the tanks up again. I know it is bad to run the engine with a half-gallon of gas in the tank, maybe another member can tell you why.

If the fuel filter hasn't been changed in the last 60,000miles maybe it is a good time to do that, and add some gas treatment/gas line dryer additive to a full tank of gas.
