Hey guys, I am the most backwards of everybody! I need a new computer, but a speed density one. The computer I have is for an automatic. . . and I have a manual. I am sure this is why my idle is at about 2 grand. So does anybody have the part numbers of various eec IV's that will work with my 89 F-150 302 4X4 M50d? Can I get my computer burned to reprogram it? Does anybody have an old ECM that they have lying around because they converted to mass air? Please somebody help me. It would be great if I could get a lower idle. . . it would make those IMCO race mufflers sound nice idling Another thing. . . on my borgwarner 1356 manual shift tcase, my rear yoke is in two pieces. nobody has another one. I need one desparately because nomatter what my truck idles at. . . I can't drive around in front wheel drive. . . with the automatic locking hubs being broken. As you can see. . . this truck has sucumbed to the pearils of winters cold. So does anybody have one? know where I can get one? Ford says its obsolete. napa says go to ford. . . and the local machine shop garage(reimkes garage in illinois) said they can't find one. . . which means there isn't one. because they can ifnd anything. so somebody please help. . . I feel bad, my girlfriend is giving me rides home from work everyday. . . not cool Thanks guy.

as for yoke. . . one more detail. . . something about it being a 31 spline makes it unforgettably difficult to use. . . it mates to a Napa part # 354 ujoint. Thanks
Timothy
For the yoke, just go to a junkyard. You can find that yoke on pretty much any fullsize ford 4x4 truck from early 90's to about 96. The slipyoke from a 1356 will also work. The computer should work.
If the computer is setup for an electronic automatic then yes it can cause problems. Rather than replacing the computer (which in all honesty probably will not fix the problem), pull the wire on the IAC (attached to the side of the throttle body) while it's running.. If the idle drops to normal then it's working.. If the IAC checks out test the TPS (on the BOTTOM of the TB), there are 3 wires, a RED a BLACK, and what ever is in the middle. It's either ORANGE or GREEN. Get 2 straight pins, son aligator clips and a digital volt meter. Stick the pins in the BLACK, and MIDDLE wire.
Clip the RED (+) lead on the voltmeter to the middle wire, and the BLACK (-) lead to the black wire, At idle the reading should be .7 to .9 volts, and at WOT it should be ~5v.
I am confused. . . I was sure that because of the extra friction caused by the torque converter. . . that the iac valve would be opened just a touch more so the idle would be the same as the manual trans with no friction. I don't have a check engine light. How do I pull codes. What would then cause the idle to be so high. . . any guesses? by the way. . none of my emissions controls work because number 1. . . I put the heads on backward to where the emissions control holes were. You know how on the rear side of the engine there is the pipe that connects the two heads to the exhaust. Well that pipe might as well not be there. because the thread reducers that were supposed to be on bracket side are on the rear. . . woops. there is no air pump on my truck. By the way. . . if I disconnect one of the vacumm line plugs on the vacuum tree. . . the idle drops to about 1100. . . exhaust burns your eyes though. Further, after disconnecting that I can disconnect the IAC and it drops to about 600 and burns your face off. So anyway. . . more infor the better. I would really like a lower idle. remember that if I disconnect only the IAC then the truck will die as there is no other way for air to get inside. OK. thanks again.

by the way. . . it isn't the iac or the tps because i have switched those many times. After about 30 seconds. . . sometimes it idles down to 1500 from 2000, but any movement of the gas pedal raises it again. For the longest time. . . truck would not come up to temp because the thermostat was blown. I forgot that I switched intake manifolds and thus thermostats. So. . . see what you guys think. . . feel free to ask questions.
There are instructions on how to pull codes on this website: http://fordfuelinjection.com . Codes can be stored without setting the check engine light. What happens when you put the automatic in park? There shouldn't be any load on the engine then, right? It would have to bump idle a bit when idling in drive. I think that there is another problem that is causing the high idle, but I really don't know for sure. Hopefully some codes will point us towards a problem. What is the voltage across the TPS at closed throttle? Measure the voltage between the green wire and the black wire on the TPS with the key on, engine off and see what value you get. It should be below 1V; something like .8 or .9V, and should return to below 1V every time the throttle is closed.
