Please Help Airbag Light comes on...

The airbag light in my 04 fx4 comes on after about an hour of driving. I took it to the dealer for service and they couldnt find anything??? The truck will chime like 4 set of 5 chimes and then about a minute later the airbag light comes on. Also it sometims blinks on and off. On time I was driving and it came on and I turned the truck off and restated it and the light blinked a code 18 like 1 blink pause and the 8 blinks. It did this about 4 times then stayed on. Also has there been a TSB issued about the bed whole truck vibration while going over bumps. The whole truck vibrates even after the truck has went over hte bump. Also the bed shakes pretty bad too???

well as for the air bag light sometimes they can be pretty sensitive if the sensor are not perfectly level or a bad ground. The stealership should if they had a good tech be able to track it down.We use to deal with it in the bodyshop all the time.

Well it sounds like autozone dont want to help i work at a parts store and we have a big code book that covers all codes all vehicles to help people like you in this situation.I would take it to autozone let them scan it just to see if that it is just a airbag code. And go from there. If anything i bet its a bad airbag sensor, ground or the sensor is not level

About all I can get out the wiring diagram manual is:
1) Chime will sound in the event of air bag failure (and light will come on), and
2) air bag inop will sound chime 5 times per second.
No mention of any codes from a flashing air bag lamp. The "restraints control module" is what senses the failure and activates the warnings.

In any event, your dealer, not you, needs to fix this NOW. Don't want anything unfortunate to happen to you or your family/friends because the airbag system is not working.

And don't mess with it yourself...you could wind up accidentally deploying them! that would be one expensive mess to take care of.

I would take it to the dealer and tell him it's not leaving until it's fixed.

Just looked this up in my service manual. The code that the light flashed out is called an LFC (lamp fault code). LFC 18 is "PAD Warning Lamp Circuit Failure" or "PAD Warning Lamp Circuit Short To Battery". These codes relate to the standard DTC (diagnostic trouble code) that is set in the PCM of B1884 and B1890 respectively. The dealer should be able to read these codes using their computer or OBDII reader. PAD stands for Passenger Airbag Disable light, the one in the center of the dash.

The manual states "Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough Inspection and Verification before proceeding with the Pinpoint Test." This sounds like something that the dealer would have to do. Hope this helps. Good luck......

Black, I have to echo Dons and 79REK sentiments here. This is a safety issue and a warranty issue. If you put it in the safety of your family that jerk dealer may wake up a little. Demand your rights.

I also have had the airbag light come on but, no chiming noise. It has come on a few times in the past few weeks, but if I turn the truck off the light turns off and does not come back on for a few days. I was planning on taking it into the dealer for this but I think the light must be on at the dealer or they will not investigate the problem.
