Windshield wiper knob Question
Is there a way to take it apart to clean the contacts. I have looked in my "Haynes" manual and it does not give instructions on the disasembly.
As for your multifunction switch, I bet you dollars to doughnuts that you are right, the problem is the contacts in your switch. I had a problem with my washer working intermittently a while back. I found a similar topic discussed on this board where someone (AjRagno) gave a good procedure for disassembling the multifunction switch (turn signal) and cleaning the contact with brakleen. I followed the procedure (pretty simple, actually) and I have had zero problems since.
As other users have pointed out, it could be a whole bunch of stuff depending on the symptoms, but I would start with the multifunction switch if there are no obvious loose connections anywhere.
Here is the procedure from the other thread that I found. Thanks to AjRagno for this info. It helped me a lot.
It's the multifuntion switch. I've been through this on my truck as well. It's the electrical contacts inside the switch that are at issue here.
The fix is pretty simple:
-Pop the cap off the end of the lever with your finger nail.
-Remove the phillips head screw.
-Pull everything out and spray all metal contacts with plenty of "Brakeleen." The stuff in the red can works well for cleaning.
It's not too tricky. The parts only go back in the way they were originally installed, so you can't mis-assemble it unless you try.
The 1st time I cleaned mine, I used electrical contact cleaner.... That fix only lasted about a week. The last time, I used Brakeleen and it's been working properly for about a year and 1/2. Don't over-tighten the screw tho
