97 Ford Explorer Tire Changing Tools
Does anyone know where to find the extension rod that is used to release the spare tire? Or, does anyone know another way of getting the spare tire out from under the vehicle? A friend used this extention to jack up my truck and I don't think they put the piece back in my truck. If so, I cannot find it. I had a flat and I need to change the tire but the instructions tell me to put the extension rod through an insert on the bumper to lower the spare tire. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe I use to use just a regular 1/4 or 3/8 12" extension on an impact wrench to quickly lower and raise the spare tire. Make sure you use anti-seize around the wheel hubs so the tire comes off easily next time.

My 2dr Explorer has the jack rods clamped to the floor under the carpet right behind the back seat. The carpet clips down to a flange, and can be easily pried up.
A 12 inch long 3/8th drive extension works well as a substitute in the shop.
