Post Structual Integrity

First off I'd just like to give some props to the guys that run this place. Great forums and a great souce of information. I don't post a lot but I do enjoy reading various threads pertaining to my particular vehicle. It's great to get to get actual fellow owners feedback on problems, compliments, complaints and fixes.

So with that said here it is, my first stupid question: I love the way the rear doors of my 02 F250 sc swing open suicide ways. It's a great conveniance.

What I don't like is the lack of stuctual integrity along the side of the cab.

I've always been a regular cab kind of guy and my previous sc's didn't have the doors.

When I close the door on my 02 it just doesn't feel latched closed. I don't know how to put it, but say compared to a 90-97 regular or supercab door.

Where the front and rear door meet is obviously a floating joint and is designed to flex and move. The only problem is there's seems to be nothing behind it.

So if you had the option would you still take the conveniances of todays sc's
over the structual integrity of yesterday's?. I'm guessing the crewcabs are still basically the same structual wise as previous models but maybe someone can set me straight on that one. I hear some complaints of squeaky doors with those also and was wondering if that was a problem with the 90-97 cc models?

Fire away

My 2002 F250 psd is my first sc also and would buy another. I have seen all the post about sqeaking doors and believe it happens to some but at almost 50,000 miles I have had no problem with my truck doing it and I am off the road and flexing my truck everyday at work. A little bit of squeeking probably wouldn't bother me anyway as long as I knew where it was coming from and it wasn't hurting anything. I also have a 02 F350 cab and chasis crew cab and your correct the cab is much more ridgid than the sc.

My concern wouldn't be with the squeaking, but rather with the structural integrity of the cab in the case of a t-bone accident. This is one reason I prefer the crew cab over the super cab. I feel much better knowing there is a fixed post right behind me.
