I have an 84 F150 2 wheel drive C6 351w and it bogs out on acceleration. It only does it right away when I accellerate from a stop. I was told it was the ignition but I replaced that with an MSD 6A and it still does it. The Carb is a 4 barrel 600cfm Edelbrock which is where I think the problem lies. The carb only has about 25,000km on it so it is still fairly new. Does this sounds like the accellerator pump? What does that look like and how hard and expensive is it to replace? Thanks.
it is a good chance that it is the accelorater pump. on the edelbrocks (the performer, square bore ones) you can change the pump setting on it. try moving the pushrod to the setting closest to the carburator. that increases the stroke on the pushrod. see if that helps.
changing the pumps are easy on the edelbrocks. just take the top cover of the carb off and brackets, and just put the new one in. be careful that you dont rip the gasket on the air horn. you have to buy the whole rebuild kit for that one gasket. (at least i did)
you may want to check for vacum leaks before ripping into thing. Check by idling engine then spraying starting fliud carefully around intake gaskets and carb base gasket...Just make sure theres no arching spark plug wires. if idle rpms increase you have a problem
