What year is it???

I have purchased what I thought was a 65 F100. The problem is, the truck was registered as a 65 and a 66. I went to DMV and they say it is a 68. I then went to the ford dealership and they were unsure. Now you understand my frustration. The rear lense covers say 65 and the dash to me anyways looks that of a 65 as well. If anyone can be sure how to tell please let me know. I will post a pic of the truck called OL'Blue.
Thanks Kurt

Are you posting it in your gallery. Theres a huge difference between a 68' and a 65-66. The diff. between a 65-66 are subtle. The grill mainly and maybe the core support.

You might post the Vin. nunber with the picture and one of the people on the site can read it for you, check to see if the number on the frame and the number on the cab are differant, If they are post both.

You can find the vin on frame, approx. 11 inches back of the core support on the passenger side frame rail and about the same from the passenger side front cab mount which you can't see unless the cab is off.

Take a look at my gallery, I have a 65. In 65 they added the twin I-beam suspension. A 66 will have a different grill and radiator support, but the body lines are the same. The body changed in 67. Keep us informed...

outward appearances says it's a 66'. Definitely not a 68'. Nice truck!

I thought the dash panel of a 65 had the 6" round speedo and the 66 had the large half moon

You definitely have a '61 - '66 truck body. No question about it.

It is possible someone put it on a later frame; check the frame VIN to be sure.
Post it back here and we can decode it for you.

If it has a solid front axle, it is a '61 - '64. (It might be a '65/'66 350+ with a solid front axle, but since it appears to have 5 lugs, it can't be a '65/'66 350 or higher.)

If it has Twin I-beams for a front suspension, then it is a '65 or later.

Let us know what you have.

The sweep speedometer was a more expensive option, usually but not always found in the Custom Cabs.
And, I have seen plain jane trucks with the sweep speedo too.
Ford didn't always follow protocol on the trim and option packages available.

Very nice looking truck, too, I might add!

Definitly has a 66 grille. That is the only difference between 65-66 in outward appearance. As far as the speedometer difference the way I read it is the Custom Cab jobs had the sweep style speedo. Some clusters had extra gauges, others used dummy lights for oil and alt. The round speedo was used in the plain jane models. I would like to have the extra gauges in my 65. Maybe one day???

Grill definitely looks 66 to me. The body style is in the 63 to 66 style.
I had a 60 and the 60 and 61 were the uni-body style. That one looks like the same body as my 64 except for the grill.

Hi Kurt...Its a 65 or 66....61-4 had the different bolt pattern on the front bump...3 bolts per side whereas 65 and up have 2. A good way to tell if its a 65 or 6 is to look at the following....1. gas pedal...is it bolted to the floor or suspended...65 is bolted, 66 is suspended.
2. Pop the hood, at top center of cowling covered by hood is a oval plug...65 and prior are metal plates with 2 phillips screws diagonal of each other..painted black. The 66 use rubber plugs...like a floor pan type plug...there are same kinda plugs behind and immediately below each hood hinge.
3. 65 window washer is a seperate button located above ignition switch if so equipped. The 66 its integral w/wiper switch.

On the VIN you posted, is that off the title or the frame ???
Reason I ask is the vin in your case should read something like F10DR123456
The 1st 3 denote an F100, D is the place for the engine code, R is the plant built, the last 6 numbers are sequential unit number for the plant.
In 67 they changed the VIN formatting... The vin would read something like F10DRA00000 which would be the very 1st truck of the 67 run, built in aug. of 66....The 3rd letter I gather is to help ID the month it was built...at least narrow it as the letter A was used from aug 66 tothe 1st part of march 67 as march run ended into the B's....and on up thru the letters...look on the frame as noted above...if you stand parallel w/alternator and go to the frame towards you...the number is stamped on frame there....may have to crank wheel one way or another in case its partly under the fender apron...the number has a large star at either end of it.....

Hope this helps ya out....cs65
