Boys:
. . . what I should do for a transmission check before I head out . . . I have shorty JBA headers, K&N FIPK and a superchip and no complaints to-date.
There's nothing you can do for a tranny check; but when hauling, merely follow the regimen employed by other successful RVers: Definitely do a tranny sump-change on an annual basis. For a mere 20 bucks, that's without doubt, your best defense against pre-mature tranny failure.
Second: Rid yourself of the K&N filter!! Marketing of these primitive contraptions, which reverts to mere '50s "technology" will quickly destroy your MAF; and rob your engine of power; which will necessitate MAF cleaning on a regular basis.

What exactly about the K&N filter ruins MAF's? And quickly to boot? I have a 97 F150, 4.6V8, 140k abused miles, and a K&N filter for around 120k of those miles. I havent done a single thing to the motor except oil filters and one belt. Never had a check engine light, passes emissions flawlessly, and hasnt cost me a dime. What about these filters ruins the MAFs so quickly?
If you over oil them as many people do.... I clean my MAF every 10,000 miles so it really doesn't matter, but I don't like the dirt getting into the motor, andit does get into the motor, I just love the Napa Gold air filters (Wix)
The WIX filters are good filters indeed. Thats all I run in the old F150 and a few other vehicles. I have heard that over-oiling the K&Ns can cause problems. I guess Ive just gotten lucky with the amount of oil I've applied. There are always those exceptions to the norm though.
