Valve Dropped! Ouch!!!!!!!!
Have you pulled it apart for analysis yet? The only thing I can say to prevent this is to see that your valves and guides are in good shape and most importantly the retainers and keepers are PROPERLY installed.
Good luck,
Doc
THE PISTON IS BEAT TO DEATH, AND THE BLOCK MAY BE CRACKED.
ALSO THE HEAD IS DAMAGED AT THE GUILTY VALVE.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR FIRST MOVE?
i'M THINKING, FIX THE HEAD, REPLACE THE PISTON, CHECK FOR CRACK IN CYLINDER, AND IF I DON'T FIND ONE, PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AND LET IT ROLL.
If the crack is in the cylinder wall a dry sleeve could be used to repair it. The head can most probably be repaired and the piston is obvious.
Since you have the head off, is there very much of a ridge in the cylinders? If not, then that would be an indication that maybe the engine isn't otherwise worn out. If there is a serious ridge, it might be a good idea to mic a cylinder or two to see if the engine is worth fixing. If it appears to be worn out, it would seem that a shortblock might be your best approach.
Good luck,
Doc
