Recently removed the belt which drives the pollution pump because the pump was making a rattling noise. Since I done this, the engine seems to be producing a exceptional amount of pressure in the base.
Can some one tell me if the pollution pump aids in the removal of crank case pressure along with the PCV. Or am I way of track.
Thanks in advance.
The smog pump doesn't have anything to do with the PCV system that I know of. I guess you are saying you are getting too much pressure in the crankcase? I guess you checked the pcv system to see if it was working? Engines with alot of miles will have some blowby past the piston rings and cause this.
I strongly recommend capping off the outlet hose on the back of the pump if you do this (pull the belt). The reason is - the check valves sometimes fail and exhaust gas will corrode the insides of the pump. That can make it totally useless later on if you ever have to have it running again.
I've seen a few locked up tighter than fort Knox...
