My understanding of how that mirror works is that there's a goo behind the glass that heats up, so I'm not sure there's a "path" the heater takes. (Though maybe whatever heats the goo has a path?) I assume you're thinking it's like a rear window heater grid, but it's not quite the same.

The path is like an outline of an ear, starts at the top & ends on the side. I bet that goo has pushed it out till it cracked.
