Good question. I tried to run down the wire but was not succesful. I decided to wait until the warranty had expired before trying again.
jeb, SD trucks do not have an off/on switch. It works all the time, but I understand it has a thermostat.

jeb--I don't have a rear window defroster and no switch. I would go the fuse box. Pull the fuse and test them. Or you could use a thermometer on a cool morning?
I'd get into my wiring but I don't like to "modify" while the vechicle remains in warranty. Sorry I can't help more.
