Cracked flathead, any help?

Back before starting a complete restoration my F1 steamed a little out the passenger side tailpipe until the engine got hot, then would quit and ran fine the whole time. Pulled the head off last night and the #3 cylinder has a crack running from about 3/4 inch down in the cylinder, up and to the exhaust seat. It runs to the hardened seat so not sure how far in there it goes yet as I haven't taken the valve out. Does anyone know of anyone in the Missouri area that can fix such a crack? The local engine shop says they can but I'm looking for anyone with experience first. I know I should find another block, but just in case I can't find one I will have to salvage this one.

You'll need a sleeve for starters, and flatties are sleeved a little differently than more modern engines. That's a pretty significant crack. To be honest, unless you have a lot of money into the block, you might start shopping for a good used one. It is likely to be cheaper.
