What kind of 0-60 times do you get on your Aerostars? Go ahead, have a friend time you and see what your ride can do. I think it would be interestinf to see what some of you have done to your rides to enhance performance.
Low 7's what doe sthat mean. Speak in English please. HOw were they timing you? These are 0-60 times right? I'm not bashing your number, I just don't know what it means. Low 7's?
What performance modification have you made? I do hope you realize the 7 seconds is a very quick 0-60 time. A '96 F-150, could do 0-60 in 9.8. If you can beat that you are definately doing something right I that on a level run? Is you engine fuel injected? A stock 98 Caravan takes 11 seconds to go 0-60
Yeah, I have actually broken into the high 6's when the temps were right but my average is like 7.1-7.2. It is on level ground at about 1000ft above sea level. The van that is doing this is my '90 3.0 shorty with auto tranny. It is not stock at all, here's the stuff that i've done: stuck in a 4.10 ls rear end, did away with the cats and remade the y pipe. Put dual exhaust leading to two bombs out the back. I have a 4 inch pod air filter bolted straight on the throttle body, timing advance (forgot what degree), shortened kick down cable and modified throttle cable assy. I ripped out the rear bench and moved the captains to the back which lost a hundred or so pounds. I also have an adjustable transmission modulator to set the shift points higher as the 3.0 likes to rev. The van is very quick off the line now and I can beat most any car off the line due to no wheel spin. Have showed some Camaros, mustangs, and a whole lotta rice burners how good my van can launch. Im wanting to put a shot of nitrous on my aero but it is definitely quick and fast enough to get me in enough trouble already.
I can beat most other cars and vans off the line in my 1991 4.0 just by my technique, I sit at the lights with my left foot on the brakes and my right foot just resting on the throttle, then when the lights change I am on the gas straight away unlike the other guys who have to take there foot of the brake and onto the throttle, losing a few tenths of a second. Of course I get smoked a few feet down the road but it is fun to see the mustang drivers face as they pass me.
My Aerostar, a '92 Extended 3.0l, can do 0-60 in 13.5 seconds. It has a K&N, 20HP chip, removed intake resonator, and the exhaust has been upgraded in the past, though it needs to be redone. The cat is pretty well shot, and the muffler is shot too. I think when we redo it, we will go with a slightly modified stock converter, and a Magnaflow muffler. I know that 13.5 sounds a bit slow to your standards, but keep in mind that most of this vehicle is basically stock, and it is still a passenger van, not a race machine. And compare to its stock 0-60 time of about 18 seconds. IT can beat a lot of vehicles of the line. The only thing it has trouble with, is newer full sized trucks, and sporty cars. Everything else is pretty easy to beat. It will be better after the exhaust gets fixed.
Well, I just found out the other day, that my Aerostar is quicker than my bosses '97 Dakota w/V6 Magnum. If you ask my that is one quick minivan. And it is getting better than 20 MPG.
We just parted with our 89 shorty, 3.0, 3:73 rear end, all stock. I remember the first time I got on it, it was in Las Vegas (were we met, the van and I that is). I was turning into traffic and needed to get in quicker than I was - The van lit up the tires, got a little sideways while being totally controlable, and took off.
We used to street race it all the time. There is not much more in life that is more fun that smoking a souped up hot rodder Honda rice rocket with one cool dude driving and a bunch of little teenie bobber girls all giggling inside, with your minivan.
In Columbia, Missouri, in the Windstar, we dragged race a guy in a Porche 924. He was out with his girlfriend and I had a minivan full of young cousins. We kicked his tail, the Windstar roasted the front tire and that poor guy was speed shifting his heart out. All he saw that night was the rear end of a Black Windstar, pulling away . . .
I always wanted to drop a high performance V8 in the middle of the Aerostar. Make a cover for it like the old middle motored chris craft boats had. Maybe someday . . .
According to consumers digest used car guide for the 97 Aerostar 2WD 4.0, 0-60 was 10 seconds-factory! which made it the fastest minivan in that year.
Mine is very close to that with 200,000 k+ however I've never timed it with anything other than my timex. Top speed is 172 KMH and I think it is governed by the computer. Also I have the sport package with the airdam and running boards/skirts and it sucks right down to the road and handles awesome over 140 KPH!
I love to drive this van!
