do you think it would work to run a .490 lift instead of milling heads?
I am on a $1000 budget for Engine mods, I can put a little more if the short block needs work I plan on replacing rings, main barings, rod barings.
Just a thought, couldn't I just drop in 351W pistons to raise compression?
so far I plan on :
302 block
9.5:1 comp
heders
Crower cam high lift short duturation 1000-4500 rpm 112-116 lsa
Holy 600 vacume secondaries
dual plane intake manafold
pertronix distributer
flamethrower coil
K and N air filter

Holly carburators reccomended me to run the Model 4150, it si a 600 cfm mechanical secondaries with center hung float bowls, crower told me that the tighter the lobe seperation angle the lower my peak torque will be so mabe I will go with 106-110, crower makes a cam max hp around 5000 rpm with .540 lift I may aim for less lift.
where can I view some dyno charts to see what different cams do and their effects such as lsa, lift , Duturation on 289s and 302s.

351 pistons wont work, it is taller above the wrist pin and will stick out the top of the block. Milling the heads and decking the block will give you the higher compression desired. You can use stock heads with stock pistons to around just above .500 lift.
Brian crower reccomended this grind to me. Baja Beast
1200-3800 rpm 5200 plus rpm red line .443 intake lift, .452 exaust lift, 112 lsa, 204 Intake duturation, 210 exaust duturation.
I will E-mail Holly to see what carb they reccomend for this cam.
Install whatever carb you want, but I've gotten rid of all my Edelbrocks. They were fair out of the box, but still needed tuning. I hate the way you use metering rods and springs to fine tune them. The Holley Street Avenger series are good carbs, and I've used three of them so far. If money is no object, I prefer the Demon carbs over the Holley. The Speed Demon model kicks butt.
