I recently acquired a '69 F250 Ranger CS. According to the VIN and the emblems it originally had a 390. According to the P.O. the engine was swapped out in '73 at the dealer with a 460. The engine has a 460 sticker and is definitely much bigger than the 360 in my '70. It's also got a 4 bbl. carb. Was this a standard practice back then or did the P.O. just feel the need for speed? I'm also wondering what transmission this engine would have. It's an auto. The sticker on the engine is hard to read. Would there be a tag or number stamped somewhere on the block to verify it's size? Any thoughts or opinions appreciated.
