German Lumber??

I was at a big-box lumber store the other day to get a couple 2X4's, and the cheapest they had were from Germany! It was called 'European softwood', and the printing on it said 'scot p.'. Scoth pine,maybe? It's actually pretty decent wood, rather heavy and dense, and it was cheap- $2.64/ ea. How can Germany grow, mill, and ship lumber cheaper than the U.S.? I didn't think there were many trees left over there!

The Germans don't- but there's scads of lumber in Eastern Europe, especially Poland. Welcome to the EU.

Lumber is only the first thing you have noticed . With the euro at $1.40 US already and climbing we in North America have just begun to scratch the surface .
