I agree, it's very hard to tell since the 300 MPG range is quite wide. I don't think I'll have the best MPG figures for you but maybe the worst in the forum: 8MPG for a 2WD Bronco, 3.08 gears, C-6, 1-bbl carb all stock & 235-75-15 tires (and at an altitude of 8.000ft). A lot of fellas with V-8s and more cubes get better mileage! ; that's gotta suck!
I get 17 on a good day. I have 3" gibson cat back with a high flow cat, tb spacer, K&N and a just new tune up i always run part synthetic and a quart of lucas oil stabilizer. I have a bug deflector and a moon visor as well. I also have 33's on my truck. At 65mph im at about 2000rpm Wickymustang, you are doing great on mileage. what exactly are you doing? Let us all in the secret!!

I got 19.6 one time on the way back from Texas with a 30 mph tail wind. I usually average about 15-16 mpg on a tank. I'm guessing 13 city and about 17 highway. Doesn't seem to matter if I drive like an old lady or like I stole it. The latter is usually the case.
I'm runningright around 2K at 65 or so mph. Like I said before, I take it easy on the skinny pedal, maintian the engine, and drive how I was taught. You can't always just leave it in a certain gear and have that be that. My dad drove 18 wheelers long haul for a long time, now he drives dumpers for the local landscaping and excavation company. He taught me all the intracacies of the manual tranny. This is still with the original O2 sensor and fuel filter. They are getting changed over spring break and then the MPG will hopefully go up a little more.
I've always gotten about 14 on Winter gas, & a bit over 15 on the "good" stuff. My miles are always mixed city & hiway. 'Just swapped in a BW T-19 (synchro 1st, & close ratio/diesel gearset), which seems to have given me a .5mpg "bump". Apparently "decent" for an old 4X4 Bronco...
I've got a gearsplitter OD on the way , which I hope/expect will get me into the 17-19 range. Even if it doesn't, I'll have "four on the floor", & four more on the "tree" .
broncr, what kind of gear splitter/OD are you getting?
I'm going with the Rolls - the Gear Vendors gear unit. It is essentially an electronic two speed overdrive, that bolts behind the tranny or (in my case) transfer case. They make them for ANY application (auto, manual, RV, racing, etc). The base unit is the same, with an adaptor plate for each specific application. You get overdrive in every gear, with the flip of a shifter-mounted switch. Needless to say, the ARE pricey.
It doesn't work in 4X4, but I don't need splitting/OD there anyway. I've got a hi/low T-case for that.
My old T-18 was geared: 6.39 - 1st(granny), 3.09 - 2nd, 1.69 - 3rd, & 1.0 - 4th. Pretty much a "three speed".
The close ratio T-19 gives a SYNCHRO'd, 4.02 1st (MUCH taller, 15-20 mph top, instead of 3-5mph), 2.41 - 2nd (slightly taller), 1.41 - 3rd (sl. taller), and 1.0 - 4th ( same). More like a car tranny, but TOUGH - mine came out of an '88 F250 V-8 Diesel.
The NICE thing is, A (FORD) T-19 is a STRAIGHT SWAP for the T-18. (EXACTLY). BEWARE! There ARE non-Ford T-19's! (Scout, Jeep(?) )
With the T-19 & GV OD/splitter, there is an OD in each gear, in effect giving 2 gears between the T-18's 2nd & 3rd, 2 between the T-18's 3rd & 4th, the same 4th, plus a final OD.
1st-OD probably won't get used much (nor 2nd, OD), but it's there.

Excellent advice, really. I was taught to visualize an egg between your foot and the pedal - I'm sometimes crushing that egg, I admit, but I do notice the difference. Learn to use your clutch correctly: find the sweet spot (it's hard to do, but once you realize it's there, it will change everything for you). Watch little things like tire pressure, oil change intervals/proper oil weight, air filters, not running your AC or heat unless necessary, keeping your windows rolled up (also unless necessary... You know, if you had Taco Bell for lunch... ). I have a molded shell, which helps with the phantom wind drag, and I'm just happy if I can fill both tanks and make it from paycheck to paycheck every two weeks.
With my truck the best I've gotten is right at 20 mpg on the freeway only. It's a 1995 with the auto, 32" BFG Commercials and 3.55's. That was with an open bed however, now I have a shell and I haven't measured with it. Pics are in my gallery
