today i was contacted by a person expressing intrest in buying my 91 ford.(only listed in the classified here so far) they have expressed an intrest in buying it and having it shipped to england and making me out a certified cashiers check, and having someone pickup the truck and title as soon as possible. i have replied that it was fine for the person picking the vehicle up to pay in cash or to leave truck at a local attorny's office while check clears.(3-4 week minium) still waiting for thier reply so far.
HAS ANYONE ELSE BEEN CONTACTED LIKE THIS?
ALSO WILL BE INFORMING LOCAL LAW ENFORCMENT ABOUT THIS.
Yes, in fact I have. My reply was to a horse I am selling. They offer to buy the product, then pay you with a cashiers check in the amount for the product and for the shipping. They ask you to arrange shipping and include it in the cashier's check. The check ends up being phoney, so you end up giving them your product and pay to ship it to them. They usually say they have a friend or colleague in the states that will deal with you. Bla, Blah, Blah.
It's a hoax and if there is anyway that you can turn this person in, do so.
I sniffed it out immediately, like you, I told them that I would only accept cash, and I would not be any part of shipping. And if they had a colleague here, that he could cash the check and deliver cash to me and arrange for shipping. It's been almost a month since I've heard back.

There is also a twist to this scam whereas you put up money for some type of verification or give your bank account number so they can transfer funds and they actually fraud you out of money as well. This is huge mostly with African accounts or accounts for Bahamas etc., Never do business with Africans unless you 100% know the persons involved. I am sure all of you have gotten the rich prince of Blah,, blah died and they need your help getting the money out of the country scam email. they also offer great job opportunites but you need to send x amount dollars for visa etc . WHile there maybe alot of great African people-- there is a huge amount of very crooked people operating in their country. I had a mint 81' corvette with less than 2,500 miles in 1989 that went to France, I had them transfer money to the bank-- and not directly to my account before I went any further-- I did not get stung that way. Take only cash in this world or certified money orders- do not give out your account numbers to anyone ever.
These cheques can bounce weeks after they have cleared in your bank
I can't believe the banking system can clear cheques then hold you responsible when they turn out to be bad
The only secure way to recieve money from abroad is a transfer direct to your account
Set up a account just for this purpose if you are unhappy about giving details of your own account
If this is a genuine buyer he will be happy to go along with this
Where in the UK is this buyer, if he is near me I may be able to check him out for you

I don't mean this in a bad way, but I'd be suspect of someone in England going through all the trouble to buy a 1991 Ford and paying the money to ship it thousands of miles away. After all, there are used cars and trucks in that country as well. I suppose if it's a one of a kind collectors piece, that would warrant the effort involved.
the way i heard it is they will send a bogus cashier check for more than the amount you asked then they want you to send back the difference meanwhile the cashier check they sent is bad and it takes up to a month for bank to find out its bad
I bought my 2000 Excursion via email in order to bring it here to England,
Sadly todays banking systems cannot speed up direct transfers and certified cheques do indeed take 3-4 weeks, as I know from experience, I bought mine from a dealer in Belmont NC who was quite happy to keep it on his lot until the funds had cleared, Crazy it may seem but prices here in the UK are crazy for US trucks, and it is very worth while buying and shipping them here, aswell as the fact they are generally much better condition than vehicles that have been here for a few years, due to lack of parts and knowledge many have been *******ised with parts from many other sources, I am planning to buy another on my trip to Florida in April/May and again ship it home, you guy's don't know how lucky you are!!
On another note I breed dogs and have had the very same sort of contacts for them, if your buyer is genuine he will be happy to wait until the funds are cleared.
