I have a 84 f 150 with 300-6 with carb,I wanted to replace with a 300 EFI.
Will the carb manifold bolt to the efi engine?
I know I'll have to mount a electric fuel pump, any other problems I may run into?
TIA.........Hank
It's a lot of work! You will need the computer, wiring harness, fuel rail/injectors, the intake plenum/throttle body, exhaust manifolds, you'll need the fuel tank and electric fuel pump, run all new fuel lines. I read somewhere else in this forum that EFI 300s also used different heads than carbureted versions. It has been done but its a ton of work, good luck!
You'll want everything assosiated with the engine. Your best bet is to pull the entire thing out of a donor vehicle. The EFI 300 does have a different head & the block doesn't have the fuel pump arm hole (though the mounting boss is there as is the lobe on the cam). Ford went to dual out - cast iron hedders for the these engines as well, though guys have gone to tube hedders. I think there is someone who has used the megasquirt (?) system, check on www.fordsix.com

ford from the factory used a pair of 3 into 1 headers that then bolted to a pair of tubes going into the first cat. with one bigger pipe going into a second cat. this whole section is one piece. Walker downpipe is a replacement part without cats that bolts to the efi headers. It is a cheap alternative to aftermarket header by way of junkyard scrounging. It is argued that the efi manifolds lost some torque, but gained upper rpm horsepower. I installed them on an 86 300 that I dropped into my 79 bronco.
Now if you want to use the efi 300 with a carb, I'd recommend using the carb head, carb intake, and efi exhaust.(minor grinding involved)
yes, and yes. the bolts that hold both the intake and exhaust are shared. but with the efi exhaust mans. there is some grinding in 2 spots so they fit up with the intake. there are also 2 bolts left over, but there is really no loss in holding it all on. As for true duals, you can bolt up to each exhaust collector, but this involves custom piping. Or you can use the efi collectors/cat, and cut it off before the cat, giving you 2 pipes to go with. Consider emission requirements first though. the exhaust forum on this site has alot of threads on this set-up.
