Question Identifying this Engine

Hi, I have just got myself a beat up old F250 (old farm workhorse). I just love the way Americans Build Cars!! One day all my cars will be Imports from USA. Long Live the American motor industry....

Enough butt kissing :-) Well here is my problem..

I have the truck now and have put in a new Water Cooler, (Radiator in SA) and a new Starter and Four new tyres...., The truck now runs.... although roughly.... (it was standing for more than 3 Years since it last ran...)

I want to do a service on the Engine (Motor in SA) but I need specs, I baught a Service Manual but the Manual does not explain hot to identify what Engine the truck has (it is not the original Engine) It is a V8, The Previous Owner says it is a 5L Ranchero Engine, but I need to know where to look to see what Engine it is.

I will be doing a complete rebuild and will post my progress along the way - It will take a while, Money it tight and Body work is Costly here. Also parts might pose a problem but I also have a Pontiac Transport SE 3.8 and I know how to look for hard to find parts......

I would just like to mention that the forum seems very helpful and knowlegable and I have allready seen many posts that will assist me as time goes by.....

Thanks in Anticipation....
