im stuck at school right now with my 1990 bronco II 2.9 liter
i got out of class drove my friend to his car went to leave the parking lot and truck stalled. I have spark, i have fuel and it just wont turn over. fuel filter and battery were both replaced yesterday. hmmmmm....
lookin for some ideas,
thanks,
~Amy~
did it stall on its own, or did you stall it (ie, manual transmission)
if you stalled it, then it could be the battery seeing that it was replaced yesterday, the stores only put a quick surface charge on batteries, just enough to start a vehicle a couple times. i would start by checking the battery.
if your Bronco stalled on its own, possibly a fuel pump quit or a blockage in the line etc
not letting it warm up shouldnt cause it to die, it just puts a little extra wear on the engine.
i just got my Bronco in december and its my first vehicle so im not to much help. did you check the fuses?
i believe there are a lot of threads on this topic, good luck.
When the battery was replaced, did you happen to break the plastic tube on the small wire coming from the negative terminal? I did this, yesterday. The plastic wire connect was cold and just snapped. I pressed it back together and went about my buisness. Later it died on the road. One of the functions of that wire seems to be running the fuel pump, and it had rattled loose. You should only have one inline filter, according to the haynes, but so am i, according to the haynes ('88). I ended up having both the inline and canister type like the '86 model year.
What kind of no start do you have -- The starter won't crank the engine, or does the starter do it's part, but the engine doesn't catch and run on it's own?
You say it has spark and fuel. May I ask how you verified those (They are usually the cause of a no start)?
Will it start with your foot on the gas (opens the throttle plate a little.)? Occasionally the IAC gets so dirty that the engine can't get air with the throttle plate closed.
Are the fuel injectors firing (can be verified with a "noid light" or just by listening to them)?
hello all...well i figured out! the rotor got to hot melted itself and the distributor cap!!!. now i just need to figure out why that happened! and why its still running kinda crappy, rough idol until it warms up, lack of power, backfires if i slam on it. Well any ways, thanks for all ur help everyone and any further help would definately be appreciated!
good one Romer, and if the distributor cap melted, how can it "still running kinda crappy"
this isnt a suggestion, just an opinion but i see no problem with backfire... it scares the heck out of the people standing around you. that never stops being fun!
but on a more serious note, find someone at school that is really good with engines/vehicles and become their best friend, also, i suggest finding a freind that drives a towtruck.
i actually had spark at the coil not at the plugs sorry for that. i havent had a chance to pull codes between school and two jobs but maybe this weekend.
