Ok I have an 81 f-100 with a 302ci and auto tranny. Im about to buy a 82 crown vic but dont know for sure if it will fit. The vic is throttle bodied and my truck is carbed. He told me all I have to do is switch the intake manifolds but I wanted to find out for sure. I am 18 and this is not my first ford but my first truck and v8. So this is goin to be a real learning experience. I have everything done to my motor other than disconnecting it from the tranny. I needed to know if unbolting it is all I have to do or do I have anything else to do.
Im not 100% positive, more live 98%. But in 82 when TBI was offered in fords it was an option to replace the carburators. What im trying to get at is that i pretty sure they used the same intakes. So if this is true then all you would have to do is unbolt the carb and bolt on all the components of the TBI. They should be the unit itslef and various wiring harnesses, and a computer of some kind. If somone could conferm the manifolds are the same then if would deffenatly save you tons of work. However if they arn't the crown vic manifold should be able to bolt on the 81 without any problems.
Are you putting the Crown Vic motor in the truck? You can swap the intakes, you may also have to swap the oil pan and pickup tube for the oil pump as well. The exhaust manifolds might be different as well if you plan on hooking up your original pipes, but you can still swap them too. Fordbuilder may be right about the TBI unit, you may be able to just unbolt it from the intake, and slap on a 2bbl. carb.
You probably should swap the distributer as well. Not certain but if the car had a computer to control the throttle body then chances are that the distributer was also controlled by the computer.
the tbi on the crown vic is essentially a 2 barrel carb with injectors in the top. and all you have to do to make it carbed is switch the tbi unit for the 2 barrel and the distributer off the truck along with the oil pan and pickup tube and you should be good to go. Good Luck with it.
P.S. i have an 83 & 84 crown vic with the tbi.
Or you could get the computer out of the crown vic and use the tbi on your truck. But i wouldnt recomend it. My crown vics have issues with that system.

Be sure and unbolt the tourque converter before you pull the engine.. It's four bolts, and you have to rotate the crank to get to each one from underneath. If you don't unbolt it, the engine will still come out but it will make a huge mess of tranny fluid.
