Electrical jumping after starting
My 7.3L does a weird thing when its started, right after it starts everything electical (headlights, dash lights, etc..) click on and off, on and off... the lights will dim then come back up. This will happen for maybe 20 seconds or so then everything is normal. The amp meter on the dash jumps up and down at the same time. Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

When its cold your glow plugs will continue to cycle for a few minutes, depending on how cold it is. When the glow plugs come on they draw a lot of current thus your headlights etc. dim.
If things are dimming a lot you may have either a bad ground, or the batterys are getting weak. I'm sure some other people will chime in with some other ideas, things to check.

94/7.3t. Mine does the same, it is the glow plug controller. Dependent on the temp it can cycle several times. Should only last a short while, if it continues after starting for a extended period of time the controller may be faulty. The gp's draw a lot of juice so this is normal.

Have your batteries load tested, but they must be isolated from each other first. The flickering of the glow plugs is normal after initial start up. They call it "after glow" and keeps the glow plugs hot enough to smooth out the idle of the engine in cold weather. You may also want to check all the glow plugs to make sure there arent bad one or two. There are lots of postings about that , just do a search. Hope this helps.
