I have a 1990 F-250 regular cab longbed with a 351w. I have an original 40 series SI/DO muffler going out to 2 tips straight back. The piping is 2 1/4 inches. Its decently loud, but not as loud as I would like it to be. I have been told cutting off the pipes and throwing some turn downs on the muffler will really increase the volume and deepness of the tone. Also, my pipes are not mandrel bent and the crimps to go over the rear axle are probably 2 inches or less in diameter. Will I be doing myself a favor as far as performance goes by ridding myself of the pipes because of the constriction? Thanks for your help!
If you dump the Flow you will get a ton of interior resonance... When I had mine on I had it dumped about 2 feet past the cab and it still droned pretty bad. I loved it at first but it got annoying after a while. Yes it will make it louder and deeper on the outside, but on the inside as well. Just something to think about before you chop off your pipes.
Somebody gave me a Flowmster 40 3"in 2.5' out and I was going to do the same, because I want it loud and cheap. I will probably go about 2' with a turn down.
akford351, any change in performance with pipes removed? I swear I recalled reading you talking about losing power when you put your pipes back on? Maybe im delusional, if so I apologize man!
