I have an automatic transmission for a '64 truck. It came bolted to a 292 engine a while back. I used the engine in a '57 country sedan, now I have someone that wants this trans. They want to install it in another '64 truck that is currently equipped with a standard 3 speed column shift.
This gentleman is older, and wants the auto to make the driving a bit easier on himself. I have no problem giving him the transmission for next to nothing, but I also want to provide some information regarding the different hookups. Does anyone know where I can find an engine diagram or other info that would provided whomever is doing the swap some guidelines as to what goes where? He tells me that his shop manual doesn't even aknowled the 292 in a 64 truck.
I know there are oil lines coming out of the trans to a water cooler, the cooler has lines to the engine for the water. I'm not sure where these lines go, what direction each fluid flows, or where the cooler bolts to. I also dontt know if he'll be able to use the drive shaft, or if it needs to be modified. There there is the question of the linkage to the transmissionm also an unknown for me...
Anyway, any info you can provide would cetainly help him out.
The coolant lines run out of the passenger side block, all motors have provisions for them. The cooler mounts onto the trans using special brackets. He'll need the ford-o-matic truck bellhousing, as it has the mounting ears unlike the cars. Of course he'll need the shorter driveshaft, and the linkage for the trans. An automatic column with shifter etc will be needed as well. His best bet is to find a 57-64 y-block ford-o-matic truck and rob the parts out of it, as there are quite a few specialty parts. -4speed
