Freeze Plugs
I have a 97 awd 5.0 explorer and the other day it got pretty cold. i guess i didnt have enough antifreeze in ther radiator and it froze up. today i went to fill it up and the antifreeze poured out as fast as i poured it in. I think i popped 1 or 2 frezze plugs on the drivers side. can anyone give me any advice on putting new ones in. and is it something i can do?

If you put in the pressed type it can be a real pain, especially with the engine in the car. Putting in the expandable rubber kind is much easier, but you've got to be careful not to overtighten them, you could crack the block. First thing is to make sure that's where it's leaking. Also, you've got to make sure that all of the old plug is out of the engine before you start putting a new one in. It's not a bad idea to clean the area with a scotchbrite pad. I have know people to knock the old one's inside the engine, but I highly recommend against doing that, you should pull them out (and that can be a pain). If it interfiers with the interior water flow, you could have a hot spot on the block and cause damage.

Freeze plugs were not intended to protect the block from ice damage. They are there to plug holes that are used as a part of the sand casting process used to make the block.
Sorry to say this, but chances are fairly high that the engine block is cracked.
