I have a 1990 F150 with a 302 in it and i have jsut bought a 84 f150 with a 351 in it that i am wanting to put in my 90 4x4 . i was wondering if the fuel injection phlenum and intake off of the 302 will work on the 351 carb engine. or if it would just be easier to keep it carburated. and the next ? is will the tranny bolt up to the new 351?
But, to convert the 351 to fuel injection you will need to get the lower intake from a 351 truck. You can find them on Ebay pretty cheap. The upper intake off of the 302 will work. You will also need a F.I. distributor from a 351 truck. Then you will either need to modify the fuel rails to make them wider for the 351, or also find a 351 fuel rail on ebay.
If you want to use your accesories from the '90, you might have to get the 351 acces. brackets from FRPP, I know you have to with Mustangs.
The transmission will bolt up, 302's and 351's use the same bellhousing. The only thing I can think of is the flywheels. The 351 will have a 28oz balance flywheel, and the 302 will have a 50oz. So do both trucks have the same transmission type (both manual or both auto)? if so, just use the 351 flywheel and you will be fine. But whatever you do, dont put the 302 flywheel on the 351.
The swap is pretty straight forward, nothing really complicated. Good luck with it.
Aside from what Tang said, the IAC off your 302 will not fit the 351's intake manifold, and neither will the TPS sensor. Everything else can cross over and fit, plug in, and work fine.
More than likely you'll be running lean however, as the factory 302 computer won't comprehend you've added 50 extra cubes, so when you find your bracketry and 351W EFI intake, make sure you snag the computer. The two wiring harnesses are the same other than a couple of grounds being in different places, so don't sweat that part of the project at all, you can reuse the 302 harness on the 351 assuming your junkyard intake is from the same year.
Tang, WTF is with that "Good luck getting help" comment?
You will need an upper and lower intake - the 302 matches the 351 lower bolt pattern, but the ports are no where near the same. You'll also need a 351 distributor from about the same year as your truck. I have heard that the brackets will swap over, although I cannot say from personal experience. You'll probably have to switch the timing covers too if the 351 originally had a mechanical fuel pump.
I think overall it is easier to update the EFI for the 351 than it is to take out all of the EFI in favor of a carburetor.
If you have emissions to consider, you cannot transplant an older engine into a newer vehicle. The vehicle is tested for the year model on the VIN. At least here in Georgia. BTW, all I've seen around here is help, kinda the reason the forum exists isn't it. Anyway you may have to consider year model on the engine.
Tex
If he swaps to EFI, the engine would likely be considered to be a newer engine, even though the block is older. Also, if the inspections are anything like they are here in North Carolina, the guy doing the inspection won't know a 351 from a 460 or a 302, so it wouldn't matter visually, as long as it could pass the same emissions levels (which all light trucks in NC have the same standards for the sniffer, no matter the engine).

What I meant, was I have been waiting and hoping someone around here knew something about E4OD transmissions, so I can either buy that one I found, or just let it go. Check my topic in the '87-'96 Forum.
