My 85 F150 charging problem was fixed with a regulator. did you make sure it was grounded (mounted) before you plugged in the wiring harness? Also, maked darn sure that all the wires in the regulator harness are tight. ONe was loose on my 150, and it wouldnt charge anything. The best thing you can do is get a multimeter, hook it up to your battery, start your truck, and start wiggling wires on the harness until you see the voltage jump up to where it should be. There was also a wire disconnected on my truck too.
I've been having the same problem with my 1984 F-150. I've replaced the alternator and the battery. I do not know what i should do next and I don't really have the money to keep replacing things that arent broken. Any help?
hmm, exactly what voltage is it charging at? also, on the regulator, i believe there is a yellow wire, and it hooks to a green wire, which goes to a little metal thing that screws on where your regulator screws on. Make sure that is connected, mine wasnt, and it wasnt charging either.
i changed the wire around its not the way the harrness was but it is charging at 13 to 15 volts so i guess that will work? i hope! as long as it dosn't burn anything up. thanks for your help!!
Yeah, with the needle right in the middle, my truck is charging at about 13.5 volts. I would get a multimeter for yourself, you can get a decent one for about 30 bucks, i got mine at radioshack, and have used it hundreds of times. You can use if for continuity testing, volts, amps, etc. Or just wait till your step son comes down and test it then, because the one in your truck really doesnt tell you alot of exact information
ford 84 make sure the alt. and regulator is still good have them tested to make sure, that is the first step. a new regulator should only be around $11
I wired-in a 130 amp alt off a 93 Taurus, with internal voltage regulator on my 86 F250. Works great, and got it fot 30 bucks at wrecking yard, with a few wires I needed.

this is what I used, and one from someone here on the board. I forget who? I bet someone in electrical will have another diagram that might help.
If I can be of any assistance, drop me a line.
