My fuel guage goes straight to full and my temp guage goes straight to hot. I've replaced sending units and still the problem proceeds. By tracing the wiring for both the only thing I can determine is that it's the instrument panel voltage regulator (or something like that). It's about the size of a 9v battery and bolts to the back of the insturment panel. Is there anyway to bypass this? Also am I even looking in the right direction as far as pin pointing the problem?
Sounds like you found the problem. Now you just need to replace it. They are readily available thru most of sponsors.
What this little gadget does....is drop the voltage so the gauges read proper. Right now they are getting full 12v and that is making them read OVER what they should be. No way to "bypass", it will leave everything wrong as it is now. It needs to be there.
