83 F150 Steering Column
I've got a 1983 F150 with tilt steering. The problem is that the tilt area of the steering column will pivot or move when you put any pressure on the steering wheel. The column doesn't move, except at the tilt area. There is a joint of some kind there that is worn out. The FORD dealership will not give me the name of the part so I can try to get it form the salvage yard. They want to fix the problem without giving me a 'fixed' price. Does anybody know the name of this part ??? AND how to fix it. Thanks..

Well, if it is like the one I have seen there are 3 small screws that hold the tilt assembly together at the column. If you take apart the assembly including the signal switch you may see these screws and it is a matter of just tightening them. They may have an allen or torx head. I think G.M. has this arrangement as well. It will take a few tools to get to this area though if you have them.
