Chiltons shows the last year for the 2.8 as 1985. So who wins the arguement?

2.9 is basic version of old 2.8 as 4.0 is(and sohc) a stroked version of 2.9. old 2.8 were solid lifter(tappet) engines with carbs. that replaced old 2.6s in Capris( and overseas units).2.9 were hyd. lifters and fuel injected.Germans decided that they could improve the 4.0 and made it into a sohc engine that has been a nightmare for timing chain plastic guides breakage(rattle when starting up as if you just changed oil!!!BUT have not seen as many in our shop lately- poss good sign,AND it is the v-6 in the new 05 Mustang!SO did Ford do away with that engine- you make that call as I work on them day to day and they all seem to look alike!!!!!
