I've been told that you can change out the 2 piece driveshaft from my 96 4x4 for a newer 98+ driveshaft. Is this correct? If so, what parts need to be taken from parts truck to complete this exchange?
you need slip-yoke from donor truck also trans case yoke as well if it differ from yout truck . make measurement s before you decided to go trhu with things .
that's as far as i know about that i would check out four wheel mag
I did it in my 95 extended cab 4x2. As stated, you just have to have the entire driveshaft out of the newer truck; yokes, u-joints, etc., as your old ones won't fit.
Because of the transfer case you might not have this problem, but be prepared to have to put a small body lift on the truck so the driveshaft doesn't hit the bottom of the cab when going over bumps. The aluminium shaft is of a larger diameter than the steel shaft and also maintains the same driveshaft angle all the way from the mounting flange on the differential to the output shaft on the transfer case or transmission, which is a steeper angle than the short part of the stock shaft. It creates a clearance issue at one point on the cab floor; I only had 1/2" of clearance after swapping mine out and had to do a 1" "puck" lift to keep the driveshaft from hitting the cab all the time.
