Any help will be great.
I can't tell you exactly where it is, because I never found mine, but somewhere under the dash there should be a box that has a reset button. This thread tells the procedure for resetting it:
Reading thruogh the link you gave me I found something interseting. "Some vehicles have a non resetable controler" I found a relay next to the computer and it dosen't have a reset switch. So I'm thinking this might be it. But I am going to remove the glove box and check behind it also thanks.:-staun
I have that relay too, I think it's just the power relay for the computer. I know I have a resetable one, it's been reset twice in the past. Let me know where you find yours.
Hey, Brown 4x4
sorry to take so long to get back at you.
I took the glove box out and the dash off and looked every where
for that relay with no luck. also took off the kick pannels. zilch!!
I'm going to the Ford dealer this week and see what they say.
I'm stumped on where it is. I had the instrument cluster out the other day to lube the speedo cable. Looked around behind it just to see if I could find it, still no sign of it. But I know it's there, mine was reset by a mechanic about ten years ago.
My dad had a similar problem in 1990, before the front range e-tests became so thorough. His 1986 Ranger had the light come on at almost exactly 70K miles. He took it into the local Ford dealer in southwest Denver. The service department said that the relay comes on whenever, just to get you to take it into get the emissions looked at. Nothing wrong with the vehicle, other than the light. They wanted something like $70.00 to reset it.
So dad took it back home without letting the Ford mech touch anything. He removed the dash, found the relay (not sure how) and simply disconnected it. Like I said it was before they actually checked that stuff. The truck passed emissions until 1996, then it failed and needed some work. My sister bought it and took it to Oklahoma where her ex wrecked it.
I'm sorry that all of this rambling didn't help solve your problem, but you can see that variations of that problem have been around for a while. To make Colorado happy you may be forced to fix it, or rig it so it acts like your oil pressure/check engine light.
