i cant tell you guys how much i appreciate your help! thanks to all of you!
this truck was bought and is being built to be a mild off roader and to get me to work and back. i got it two years ago, for $100.00. sezed engine, mangled tranny. i think someone towed it over a hundred miles IN GEAR! now the 351m has 10,000 miles on it, reman. tranny, rebuilt t-case, new brakes, new steering gearbox, new front driveline, oh yeah, new CB, (im a radio junkie!). now its time to get the suspension happening. its showing its age, and im afraid to do any real wheeling until i get new ball joints and some new polyurethane bushings. im interested in any advice you guys can give me on how much of this i can do in the driveway and what i'll need a shop for. ive been wrenching on cars, (no 4x4's though) since i was 12, (holding wrenches for dad.) so im not daunted by a set of instructions. i just dont want to buy tools that i'll only use once or twice. thanks again for all the help.
P.S. my truck has the four leaf spring suspension if that helps anyone.

Reason: forgot sumpin'!
i'll have to check the invoice, but i dont think it was more than 200 dollars. of course everything was already taken apart for the 1400 dollar tranny job.
i did the turn the driveshaft trick, and im am in 2 wheel drive. my t case seems to want to go from neutral (where i leave it for normal driving), it goes one click back. from neutral it will go all the way forward and then when i pull back on it it seems to find another gear just forward of neutral. thanks again for the help.

Reason: oops
the np 205 should have a shift pattern as follows: all the way forward(towards dash) is 4 low, one back from that is neutral, then 2 high (normal driving), and all the way back towards the seat is 4 high , if you give the trans code off off the id tag i will tell you what trans you have?
